CALLIGRAPHY

Calligraphy and Design is a partnership established over thirty years ago, specialising in the field of calligraphy and lettering together with associated skills such as heraldry, book design and illustration, gilding, glass engraving and web design.

 

ORGANISATIONS

 

The Society of Scribes and Illuminators

The Society, based in the UK, is one of the most well-established and respected calligraphy societies in the world. Its website gives information about the Society, its aims, membership and activities. There are also pages giving information about what is currently happening in calligraphy and about other sources of interesting information.

 

Letter Exchange

The Letter Exchange, founded in 1988, is a society for professionals involved in the whole spectrum of the lettering arts and crafts, from calligraphy and letter-cutting, through design for print, publishing and typography, to signage and architectural lettering.

 

ATypI

ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale) is the premier worldwide organisation dedicated to type and typography. Founded in 1957, ATypI provides the structure for communication, information and action amongst the international type community.

 

Wynkyn de Worde Society

The Society was founded in 1957, taking its name from William Caxton's journeyman, Wynkyn de Worde. Its members provide the Society with a wide spectrum of people dedicated to excellence in all aspects of printing and the various stages of its creation, production, finishing and dissemination. Since its foundation the Society has looked beyond the ever-changing techniques of the world of printing to the proliferating spheres of communication.

 

Microsoft Design

Eiichi Kono, EJF Board member, has designed Meiryo, a Japanese ClearType font for the Microsoft Corporation in collaboration with Matthew Carter and C&G in Japan. Details here
