Assembling a library for teaching and research is one of the four immediate objectives of the Edward Johnston Foundation.
To date the library stands at about 1300 volumes and includes some slides as well as the glass negatives of early editions of Heather Child's Calligraphy Today. It is strong on general calligraphy books and heraldry, and has smaller sections on type, paleography and handwriting. It has a good collection of syllabus and exam papers in calligraphy from the time when it was part of the ordinary Art School programme.
The library is being assembled by donation and consists of three principal collections drawn from the libraries of Daisy Alcock, Heather Child, and Bob Duvivier. We are grateful to John Fairbank, Ann Hechle, John Nash, Catherine Ong, John Piper, John Woodcock and Hermann Zapf for their gifts.
The Library and study room, which is currently in temporary accommodation, may be used by prior appointment.Contact us for details.
